Parents on the spot #7

Dominic has developed an interest in etymology recently which he applies to anything that comes across his path. Two recent examples include:

1. Why is a barbecue called a barbecue?

and

2. Why is Formula One called Formula One?

Chris answered the second one with "Well it's the top formula of cars so it is number one" but I thought that was a bit of a cop out really.

Max, meanwhile, prefers to consider things scatalogical and has recently enquired in all seriousness:

3. Does Winnie the Pooh poo in the grass or in a toilet?

I thought a picture of said bear might help us when considering this key question.

You could try Max wiyth the following :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbecue , but in my experience even trying to blind them with science doesn't shut them up!

Aminals do it on the grass or wherever they happen to be. Pooh is an animal. Anthropomorphism should be unlearned whenever appropriate, ie now.

1) It's called a barbecue so that our antipodian cousins can easily shorten it to BBQ or Barbie. For example, "Come over this arvo and I'll bung a snag on the barbie".

2) It's called Formula One as most people only watch one lap and then go off and do something interesting.

3) Pooh uses his old honey pots and stores them in a bunker under Hundred Acre Wood.
