Amateur dramatics

For Christmas, Great Aunt Meg (hope she doesn't read this!) gave the kids this gorgeous puppet theatre which hangs in a doorway. We haven't quite got round to getting them any puppets yet, but they managed with playmobile and, this weekend, put together their first play.

Interestingly, at the outset, their main concern appeared to be what to charge us for the performance. After much faffing, we settled on ten pence per adult per child. Should I be worrying about what this says about their priorities?

Anyway, several hours or minutes later, we finally got the point of there being something to watch. Dominic took the part of a narrator and Max was responsible for nearly all the the action. That was okay, except when he forgot to use the theatre and just sat hidden behind the curtain playing with the playmobile. Perhaps we should have asked for our money back.....

Still, at least there was a story of sorts. This was how Dominic laid it out for us: "It's about a group of boys who go on an adventure. Some of them die. But it does have a happy ending." And so it did - but just not for Sam or Charlie who perished horribly at the bottom of a cliff.

Wow, 3 entries on one day. How can I compete. I guess I can't. I don't have as many interesting pieces of art to display nor such interesting cultural events to attend. 10 pence, hmm, for that beautiful puppet theatre I would have charged $10....
