The Beamish Museum

Our next excellent day out was to the Beamish Museum just south of Newcastle which depicts life in 1913 in a series of different areas including a town, a colliery, a farm, a school and a large house (which we never made it to). You are transported around its large grounds by open top bus or tram cars - both of which were very popular with the junior members of our party.
We donned hard hats and struggled down a mine. The cramped working conditions were vividly laid out before us - it was a brilliant little history lesson.
Then we went to the town and enjoyed the dentist and the confectionery shop although the star attraction was really getting to feed the horses. The pig at the farm also caused much hilarity by having the largest wee ever seen heard or smelt by the little Braithwaites.
Our last call was at the school where the kids all enjoyed writing on a slate and I found the blackboard very amusing.
