This is the abiding image of Dominic this Christmas. When he has not been hooked up to his new PSP or battling at ice hockey on the PS3, he has been reading Harry Potter. He has read the whole of the Goblet of Fire and as I type is on page 327 of the Order of the Phoenix. He has been able to read for a long time now and has read lots of short chapter books. He had reached the point where we were refusing to buy him books as he had literally read some of them within an hour of purchase. But apart from one foray into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory & Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator he has been refusing point blank to take on anything more challenging...until now.
It's a method he's applied at various points in his 7 and a half years. He refused to talk pretty much until he was over two. And hasn't stopped since. He refused to be potty trained until he was nearly three. And then never had a single accident. It's not the way I'd have expected him to go about things.... but it clearly works.
