Dominic's report card

I should have done this over a month ago but the children's incredibly long summer holiday has played havoc with my ability to keep on top of this blog. Dominic has been 11 since July 7th and I am only now getting down to business. But enough of that. Time to write about Dominic's favourite topic. Dominic.

Looks
Dominic is over 5ft 3 and my feet fit in his shoes. He is very brown and fit due to the joys of summer swim team. Recently he has taken to wearing sun glasses and putting gel in his hair every morning. And his efforts on his appearance do seem to be drawing some attention his way. Here he is with a small admirer.
Personality
Dominic continues to be a forty-year old adult trapped in the body of a child. He is a great conversationalist and will chat away to anyone who will listen. He is kind, good with younger kids (siblings excluded) and he is bright, full of smiles and has a great sense of humour. Recently I told him that sarcasm was the lowest form of wit. He immediately replied that at least it was a form of wit. Had to give him that one. Everywhere we go we meet people Dominic knows. This is partly due to all the activities he's done and partly due to that memorable British accent. But it's also due to the fact that he does have a great personality. His maths teacher last year told me he was a great kid to have in the class because he was so cool and clever and the other kids followed his lead. I am not making this up.

Skills and experience
Dominic must be one of the most improved swimmers in the Y this year. Getting into Championships for the Butterfly was a major, major achievement. It's the one thing I've really seen Dominic have to work to be good at - which says a lot about how many things come easily to him. Top of that list, has to be drama. The boy can act. The fact that he spends so much of his time (when not at drama class) also acting out different moods, pretend deaths and other general daftness probably helps too. His school work is great and we are hoping that recent improvements in his organisational skills will help him cope as he starts Middle School very soon. He is the goalie in his soccer team and has just taken a golf camp. Swing good, putting so-so. What else? He's still a big reader and so advanced that the librarian at school was lending him books before she put them out on the shelves and even lent him one that she thought was too old for the elementary library but that she just knew he would enjoy. He's finished his summer reading for Middle School this week. For the record, his books were Groosham Grange by Anthony Horowitz, Call of the Wild by Jack London and The Sledding Hill by Chris Crutcher.

Likes
Soccer, his soccer management game, swimming, the dogs, baked potatoes, eating out, sushi, frosties, asparagus, drinking milk, looking cool, talking, bed-time chats, best mates Sam & JP, movies (esp Mission Impossible) The Apprentice, being Dominic, earning money looking after neighbourhood pets

Dislikes
Being told to do stuff, the stupid (in his view) things Max and Maddie do and say, going to bed early.

What we love about Dominic
Great sense of humour, generosity, maturity, intelligence, cuddles, smiles.

What still tries us about him
Back chat and tendency to be a smart-alec, sibling bickering.
