Summer holiday week 5 & caption competition

This week I have actually been at home with the little Braithwaites but following my policy that I am less likely to go mad if we are out doing things, we have had a few excursions to keep us busy.

On Bank Holiday Monday we had a picnic at Brereton Heath Nature Reserve and then went on a "walk". We are trying to get the kids into this idea of going walking as a pleasurable activity but this, it has to be said, was more of a stroll. Still, we did a bit of wildflower spotting and they enjoyed a tunnel made of willows so it made for a pleasant afternoon. On Tuesday we re-visited the Dr Who exhibition in Manchester and on Thursday we went to a Maize Maze.

The Maize Maze is great. It is really big and in the design of a cow with a three way bridge and lots of quiz posts to find in interesting places like its ear and its udders. Also the farm had lots of pedal cars, hay bales, picnic tables and stuff so we were there for over five hours without a problem. Finally I saw the advantage of this rubbish weather as the place was really quiet and very friendly and relaxed. The maize was so high that I couldn't see where we were going either and I don't think we'd have managed if I hadn't opted for the map in a sealed envelope for opening when desperate! Mind you, I don't suppose letting a 6, 4 and 2 year old take turns in choosing which way to go was ever going to be a terribly successful strategy. I love this photograph but can't quite think of a worthy caption. Any suggestions?

Lastly, on Friday, Mel and her three kids came for some jolly play and some lunch. There is now only one more day of holiday left. On Tuesday Max goes to school, Madeleine makes her first visit to pre-school and Dominic starts Year 2. Am charging the camera batteries.

As the Braithwaites happen upon a tiger, they recall the Ranger's advice:
- Keep perfectly still
- Avoid eye contact
- And most importantly, do not make any loud sounds.

Oh well, two out of three ain't bad!

Trust me...if we hide here long enough, none of us will have to go to school on Monday
