Last Friday Dominic and Max slept in separate bedrooms for the first time since they were about three and one and a half respectively. It would be fair to say that neither of them looked back. In fact, Max has insisted on having his bedroom door firmly shut every night and since Dominic's remains wide open with a light shining in from the hall I guess it wasn't a moment too soon for the younger of the gruesome twosome. Max has their old room but it has been re-lined and painted blue (by me) and Dominic has the spare room also re-lined and painted yellow (also by me). It will probably be some time before I get the urge to decorate again but at least the shocking red spare room that we inherited from the teenage boy who occupied it before we bought it is consigned to history. The bunk bed is also a thing of the past but thankfully Dominic has decided to sleep in the double spare bed so we will still be able to accommodate visitors and he will take a mattress in Max's room when the space is required.
As with a real divorce, we also split up their toys. I thought it might be a bit traumatic but they were actually pretty sensible about whose was what and I was able to offer the local charity shops a bit of pre-Christmas tat to boot. So far, this divorce is a winner all round.
