Not so much of the secret, but lots of fun for Dominic's seventh birthday last week. On his actual birthday he had good mates Max, Aidan and Thomas round for tea after school and this was followed by his birthday party proper on Saturday.
Dominic asked for a playstation party at home which involved him, Max and six of Dom's friends playing a tournament. To keep ourselves occupied we also had all the parents and siblings over plus local favourites the Browns and the Bevans with their kids joining in later on. Poor Chris. Between making morrocan lamb, playstation management and bbq-ing sausages I have to admit the larger share of the work fell to him.
That said, I can only begin to convey the horror I felt when I asked Dominic what kind of cake he would like me to buy for him in the supermarket and heard his swift reply: "Home-made, Mum. I only like home-made cakes." Not known for my domestic Goddess credentials, I think, however, that I rose to the challenge. Dominic had Victoria Sponge covered in red (for Liverpool FC) glace icing and decorated in Haribo sweeties and for back-up because of numbers there was also another Victoria Sponge this time covered in vanilla butter icing and decorated with white and brown chocolate buttons. Not bad if I say so myself.
