It looked like being one of those days. One of the ones that just don't quite work out as planned. When things don't exactly go wrong, but nothing much right happens either. The weather was a bit iffy but Marc had never been to Niagara and we'd really enjoyed it there last time. So we went. About two blocks from home we went back and got Chris's passport. Then he headed down the QEW to Toronto. Then he came off at the next junction and went back on it again, this time in the right direction. We got to Niagara all very ready for our lunch and found a place to eat with great views over the falls. I'll pass over the bit where I had to send my food back I think.
Anyway, fortified with food we were ready for the main event of our excursion - a walk to the States. Max thought it was a bad idea and said so - repeatedly. In fact he moaned his head off. Still, through the cold and the rain we staggered on. We paid 50cents each to leave Canada and walked across the Bridge. What a great idea it is, to be able to go across a bridge, get your passport stamped and then meander back over again. Or it would be if that was what happens. What really happens is they ask you to fill in a bunch of forms and want you to pay $6 each to go in one door and out another. And when we said we'd rather not....they formally refused us entry into the USA.
Happily they were quite happy to have us back in Canada and didn't need any paperwork or cash - hurrah. And while most of us were cold and miserable (mainly Max) Dominic entertained himself by imagining that the Bridge was in fact Dominic's land with the Dom as its currency (bless). Then it was only half an hour to wait until they lit up the falls which we hoped would be something worth freezing to death for. For a few minutes I have to say that this too was in the balance. There were only a couple of bits lit up and it all looked a bit...well, pants. However in another ten minutes or so the whole lot was lit up,and with colour changes too. I liked the Horseshoe in red the best. The photo was taken by Chris who, looking at my attempts at this shot and my naff photo of the CN Tower in the post below, is definitely in charge of night photography from now on.

That made me smile. All of it made me miss you, It reminds me of our trip to the markets last year and how it filled us with Christmas joy!Hmmm. We nontheless ventured there again on Sunday. It was cold and damp, but we had quite a pleasant time. We did only commit to an hour. Max and Sadie were however thrilled with their giant bratwurst.
Send our love to everyone.xxx
