First day of spring

Is it the first day of spring in the UK? I can't remember seasons being so rigidly defined when I was a kid. But Maddie is sure of it and I seem to remember Max having some similar ideas imported into our home from school in Canada.

Certainly the tree in our garden thinks spring has sprung and the weather is great.  Today I went to a talk about Middle School as Dominic will be in 6th Grade and at a new school in September. His will have form class/registration/home room (whatever) at 7.40am.  His first class will start at 7.50am.  He'll have lunch at 10.50am for 30 mins. They have no other break times. School finishes at 2.20pm. At which point he'll be bused home, ready for something to eat and a siesta probably! It's going to be different, that's for sure.

I think it's officially spring here too - but maybe we've just adopted the North American practice as usual. But at leasr we do seem to be having a spring (even though we haven't really had a winter) for about the third year in a row. So spring is (possibly) not something that just happens in books as it appeared to be a while back.

Spring having a first day is something that has happened here, but it's something of a recent invention. Different people have different views. Also, different countries have different views, which makes sense as the climate does change from place to place. Midsummer Night is somewhere near the beginning of Summer, from what I remember.
