Where the wild things are #3

How I wish I'd taken these photographs. Pause for sigh. However, at least I have seen all three of these creatures in the last few days and one in fairly memorable circumstances.

We were just off to bed the other night and I went back into our living room to get my book. I glanced out of the window and saw an animal sniffing round our garbage (see how North-American I am already!) Eek. What was it? Too big for a cat... legs too short for a dog and worse... I saw there were two of them. I called Chris and danced about a bit before grabbing my camera and braving going out on the front porch but I couldn't get a photo and I didn't have the nerve to go down the drive. Chris was less faint-hearted/more foolhardy than I however and he went down the drive and scared the RACCOONS away. It seems they are common in these parts and one Canadian mom I was telling my story to (in my best amused/enthused new person/idiot-abroad mode) was totally amazed that we don't have raccoons in the UK.

The Blue Jay I saw flew right past my face when I opened the front door the other day and the Downy Woodpecker was helpfully (in terms of identification) pecking the tree outside the dining room yesterday morning. Whatever next....
