Other half term activities
Apart from Tuesday's trip to the museum, we have a few other things to record in our half-term diary.
Monday - well, not much planned which was just as well as Dominic accidentally scratched Max's cornea rather badly - and certainly painfully - at about 9am. That left the rest of the day for him to howl through and he and I to hang out in pharmacists and opticians trying to make sure the damage was properly treated. Child with injury also proved to be very expensive. I ended up buying him a new pair of shoes while we waited for the pharmacist to come back from her lunch break and then, when we had all the golden eye ointment and other drops that a boy could need, it turned out he needed a cheering up toy. And if that wasn't enough, we needed a cheering up toy for the guilt ridden brother too.
Wednesday - Falkirk. Wednesday is one of mum's days to visit Granny so off we went confident that les enfants would be their usual well-behaved selves at their Great Granny's house. No, I'm not being sarcastic. They are normally very well behaved there (if nowhere else). However. Perhaps I should have recognised that it wouldn't be a top visit when Max greeted Great-Granny on her doorstep and the following interchange took place:
Max: Hello. Is Great-Grandpa died?
Granny: What? Oh, yes dear.
Max: Well I knew that because he is not in the house anywhere.
The visit was characterised by quite a lot of noisy argument between the two little blighters but they really outdid themselves over lunch with this:
Dominic: How old are you Great-Granny?
Mum: She'll be 94 this year
Max: You might die this year.
Thursday - More boys behaving badly with the day only rescued by a trip to the Commonwealth Pool. Same showers, same lockers same everything as it was when I went there when I was a kid. Maddie was at home asleep and the two boys were great fun. Dominic did a somersault and Max believes he swam without armbands.
Friday - North Berwick, pictured above. Lots of laughs, lots of waves, three wet and dirty children. Turns out they are not very good at playing chicken with the waves. I told Dominic he couldn't go paddling so he just fell into the sea instead.
Max was back on his less than charming form by the evening though when he asked one of my parents' best friends, a rather large gentleman it must be said: "Why does your bottom look like an elephant's?" Makes me wince just thinking about it.
Saturday - Dunbar. Very pleasant visit with Chris' parents. Even better, we got to go out for an excellent meal in The Rocks. Obviously Madeleine sensed that we went to bed late and a bit worse for wear as she decided to get up for a couple of hours in the night. Aargg.

As the saying goes "out of the mouths of babes". Hope Max's eye recovers
