Summer hols week 4 - Return to Clare

Last week the children and I went to Clare to stay with good friends Maria, Mark, William and Daniel. The weather was pants but we were not put off - besides, who wants to hang about in a house with five children aged between seven and two. Quite.

So we managed ten-pin bowling, Sudbury park, ice-cream at Roys (you have to know Sudbury to know how classy that is)a visit to Clare park with medieval doings going on in the drizzle, dog walking on the Common, a trip to Ickworth park involving a complex game about Weeping Angels (see last series of Doctor Who), lots of dressing up and playing drums, guitars and the piano, games of chess and draughts and, finally, a visit to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford on the way home.

Chris joined us on Thursday and shopped in our old green grocers and butchers so we were able to indulge in some treacle back bacon on Sunday. I think both our Dads remember that with some fondness.

Even better, I got to go out to a free gig and with a free beer one night. I fully expect to be attending a more public gig next time and will be the one going about saying in a loud voice "Oh, yeh. I'm friends with the lead singer. Yeh, we think she's pretty cool.'

Back home now, feeling a bit plump (chocolate cake and home made bread) and a bit knackered but with only one week before Max goes to school and Madeleine starts pre-school, my days with the kids are feeling more precious by the minute. Honestly.

Looks good if a little chilly. What will you do with yourself with all that free time?

Chris isn't it time we heard from you?
