Say cheese!

The centrepiece of our Easter holiday this year was a farm holiday not far up the road in Lancashire. Clever Mel booked the Braithwaites and the Goodridges in for a long weekend of fun with no electricity, no heating and no sleep in a semi-camping holiday that at points seemed complete madness. Thankfully those points only really occurred in the middle of the night when the rain stopped falling on the canvas roof and suddenly all the wildlife in a five mile radius rushed to flap, caw, hoot and scrabble about just next to my tent. Oh, and then there was that bit on our hillwalk in torrential rain where I felt a bit bad that none of my kids had hats on....

Anyway, enough of the mad bits and on to the good bits. Well there was the fishing about under hens' bottoms for fresh eggs, stroking baby goats, helping milk goats, abandoning children to play for hours with said goats, a very good pub lunch, the sunshine before the rain, the peace and good wine and company after the children went to sleep, the fresh air and wholesomeness of it all, the nibbly ponies, the amusing camping neighbours, the playing of rounders and sploshing in the river. It would have been fantastic if it had been warm and was a real success all round anyway. It has occurred to me more than once during the bizarre snow and hail we had last week that it could have been a whole lot worse!
